The Social Computing Research Centre at the Cyprus University of Technology provides a select cohort of Postgraduate and PhD students the opportunity to network, expand their knowledge and enhance their skills.

There are two summer schools to choose from under the themes ‘Social Computing in the Big Data Era’ and ‘Usable Security and Privacy in Online Social Networks’, within the scope of the EU-funded projects NOTRE and ENCASE respectively.

The theme of the NOTRE Summer School is Social Computing in the Big Data Era. It mainly targets PhD students and skilled practitioners. The programme covers topics from a broad range of domains which contribute to advancing the field of Big Data. The NOTRE aims to encourage participants to understand significant research issues commonly or increasingly studied in the field of Social Computing in the Big Data Era. Such enhanced understanding will enable them to select and combine appropriate research methods, technologies, theories for their specific Social Computing projects and to contextualize them without unintended impacts on validity. Furthermore, it will give opportunities to PhD students to interact and exchange research ideas with other PhD students, participate in discussions and focus group sessions on PhD studies and experiences and engage in discussions around research in Social Computing in the Big Data Era.

All participants, who successfully complete the summer school, will receive a Summer School Certificate of Attendance (6 ECTS) from the Cyprus University of Technology.

The theme of the ENCASE Summer School is Usable Security and Privacy in Online Social Networks. The ENCASE summer school aims to encourage participants to understand significant research issues commonly or increasingly studied in the field of Usable Security and Privacy for Online Social Networking. Such enhanced understanding will enable them to leverage the latest advances in usable security and privacy to design and implement a browser-based architecture for the protection of minors from malicious actors in online social networks. Also to provide research and innovation contributions to end-user experience assessment, large scale data processing, machine learning and data mining, and content confidentiality. Furthermore, it will give opportunities to PhD students to interact and exchange research ideas with other PhD students, participate in discussions and focus group sessions on PhD studies and experiences and engage in discussions around research in Usable Security and Privacy for Online Social Networking.

All participants, who successfully complete the summer school, will receive a Summer School Certificate of Attendance (6 ECTS) from the Cyprus University of Technology.
