We will first head off for the ‘Mosta Church’. Commonly known as the Rotunda of Mosta, the church boasts the fourth largest unsupported dome in the world and the third largest in Europe.<\/p>\n

Continuing the trip to pure history, we will then visit the medieval city of Mdina, Malta\u2019s old capital city. Mdina is a medieval walled town situated on a hill in the centre of the island. The town is still confined within its walls, and has a population of just under three hundred. We will take a walk in the \u2018silent city\u2019 admiring the imposing bastions that command a magnificent view, and a panorama of most of the island.<\/p>\n

Our final stop is Rabat, a village just outside Mdina. A suburb of the old capital Mdina, Rabat is home to the famous catacombs of St. Paul and St. Agatha.<\/p>\n

Discover the Grand Harbour area opposite Valletta known as the Three Cities \u2013 Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea, where the Knights of St. John first settled in 1530.<\/p>\n

Driving past Cospicua, we will reach Vittoriosa for a walking tour through the narrow streets in the shade of historic buildings, including the first auberges of the various langues of the Order. At the Vittoriosa waterfront we will take a typical harbour boat (dghajsa) for a tour of the colourful harbour creeks. From the Senglea Garden, situated at the tip of the peninsula, we will enjoy a stunning 360\u00b0 view of the Grand Harbour, including the impressive Fort Sant Angelo from where Grand Master La Valette led the defence of the island during the Great Siege of 1565.<\/p>\n

Gozo is the second largest island in the Maltese archipelago, after Malta itself. Gozo is a more rural area and known for its scenic hills, featured on its coat of arms.<\/p>\n

After a short twenty-minute ferry crossing we will reach Mgarr harbour, which immediately sets the pace to Gozo\u2019s unique atmosphere. The guide will lead us around the Megalithic temples of Ggantija, the oldest free-standing monuments in the world, pre-dating the Pyramids of Egypt. This will be followed by visits to the medieval citadel in Victoria, the fjord-like bay at Xlendi and the Azure Window at Dwejra. Gozo is well-known for its crafts, particularly handmade lace and knitted garments. Visitors cannot fail to be impressed by the island\u2019s lush countryside, its serene atmosphere and how different it is from the larger island of Malta. We will have lunch as part of the excursion at a local restaurant.<\/p>\n
