In the Old Port of the city of Chania, there are the Venetian Neoria which were built in the 16th century for the need for repairs of the Venetian fleet. The last of the youths, dominating alone towards the west, is the Great Arsenal.<\/p>\n

The Great Arsenal was built around 1600, but was used as a site from the mid-19th century. In 1872 the second floor was added, greatly expanding the building. Since 1928 and for more than ten years, the building has been used as a Christian school and municipal hospital, while hosting theatrical performances and the Town Hall of Chania.<\/p>\n

During the German invasion, the Great Arsenal was bombed resulting in extensive damage to the structure of the building, preventing any use of it. At the end of the 20th century, the building was restored by the Mediterranean Architecture Center of Chania. From then until today, it is one of the most important cultural spaces of the city of Chania and hosts conferences and seminars, theater performances and concerts, workshops and numerous events throughout the year.<\/p>\n
