Excursion to the Euganean Hills ("Colli Euganei") and Dinner

Friday, 8 June 2018

The Euganei are a group of low-lying volcanic hills lying a few km south of Padova. In the Euganean Hills there are several wonderful villages and gorgeous landscapes where nature and history meet in harmony. The peculiar geological conformation of this area has always fostered the building of massive towering castles too, intended to defend the territory and represent the center of most of the economic and social activities of the neighboring villages (see www.euganeanhills.com).

In Battaglia Terme, we will visit the Catajo Castle, a building bursting with history, charm and legend, built in the 16th century by the Obizzi family. The Catajo Castle has over 350 rooms and 40 hectares of grounds.

See http://www.castellodelcatajo.it/en/ for more information.

Then, we will go by bus to Arquá Petrarca, a medieval village considered among the most lovely in the Euganean Hills. We will have the chance to walk around the village and see the home and memorial tomb of the famous poet Francesco Petrarca.

Dinner will be in a typical restaurant in Arquá Petrarca, Miravalle restaurant (www.miravalle.it). We will taste culinary specialties and local wines.
