COST Action 1106 (Integrating Biometrics and Forensics for the Digital Age)

IWBF2016  is organized by COST Action IC1106 – “Integrating Biometrics and Forensics for the Digital Age”). COST Action 1106 aims  to determine how, and which, biometric technologies can be deployed in forensics applications in the foreseeable future.

In general COST Actions are a flexible, fast, effective and efficient networking instrument for researchers, engineers and scholars to cooperate and coordinate nationally funded research activities. COST Actions allow European researchers to jointly develop their own ideas in any science and technology field. COST Actions cover scientific and technological research activities for peaceful purposes and of public interest, aiming to contribute to the COST Mission. Every COST Action has an objective, defined goals and clear deliverables. These are described in a Memorandum of Understanding, accepted by at least five participating COST Member Countries.

Cyprus University of Technology

The conference is organised by the Department of Communication and Internet Studies and the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, Cyprus University of Technology (CUT).

Cyprus University of Technology is one of three state universities in the Republic of Cyprus. It was founded by law on December 2003 and welcomed its first students on September 2007. The CUT aspires to develop into a modern, pioneering and internationally recognized university, able to offer education and high level research in leading fields of research that currently have a great impact on the economic, technological and scientific sectors. Focusing mainly on applied research, the University aspires to acquire a role in support of the State and society in their efforts to deal with problems related to science and technology.

The Social Computing Research Center (SCRC)

The Social Computing Research Center (SCRC) (http://socialcomputing.eu/) is an established multidisciplinary Social Computing Research Centre (SCRC) of the Cyprus University of Technology and addresses research and educational needs in the area of Social Computing. The Centre address the key societal challenges outlined in Horizon 2020, the Common Framework for Research and Innovation (2014-2020) which among others include: (a) inclusive, innovative and secure societies (including cyber-security); (b) information and communication technologies; (c) alignment of society (including societal actors such as researchers, citizens, policy makers, business, third sector organisations etc) with research and innovation process; (d) seizing the ICT opportunities for engaging society more in its research and innovation activities. The SCRC Centre is committed at Social Computing in a broad sense with a hub for high impact multidisciplinary research that influences research strategy, policy and practice in the area of Social Computing. In addition, the Centre explores the development of cross-school programs of study and knowledge transfer activities.
